Season 2 - Trailer

See this content in the original post

Finally we are only a week away from the launch of season 2. One moment it seems a long way off and then suddenly time seems to speed up. We have trailer for this new season of Our Plant Stories, which will be published on podcasting apps and then next Friday it will be the first episode. There is also have a press release which I will be sending out over the next week hopefully to encourage others to promote the podcast. I thought I would also share that press release here. As before I think word of mouth will be important so please do share it with friends and fellow gardeners. Meanwhile research for future episodes continues. I have just had a fascinating email from New Zealand that may lead me on another apple quest! I recorded a conversation on the 2nd January that takes us to Chile. The first episode on 12th January will take us to China. As I write this it is the most gloomy, wet evening in London, so I think a little armchair travelling in the company of plants could be good.

Our Plant Stories Podcast returns for Season 2 on January 12 2024

“I’m loving this podcast, such an apparently simple idea of blending personal stories with the story of a particular plant. Often the family histories are moving and show the power that gardening has in our lives.”

“One to listen out for – Charming greenfingered tales”

The Guardian Podcast recommendation

Our Plant Stories always begins with someone’s story about a plant.  Perhaps that geranium on their windowsill was also grown by their mum, and their grandmother and their great mother – a plant shared through generations of gardeners.  Or perhaps that Viburnum links them back to a lost garden and a friendship between gardeners, in a previous century and across continents.

Then the fun begins as we follow that plant story – it can literally take us all over the world because plants may not move but people do and they take plants with them.  We dig deeper until we find someone who shares the passion for that plant or has clues to the story – it could be a gardener, a grower, a botanist or a historian.

Finally we learn how to grow that episode’s plant.  Can we put it in a pot, does it need sun or shade, will it work in my small garden.  All that information is also available on the website.

“Each episode has just the right amount of enthusiastic expert input to set me off on growing plants that are new to me without feeling intimidated.”

Season 2 begins 12th January 2024

Episode 1 – Penn’s Viburnum

All episodes from season one are available here: Our Plant Stories - Season 1

Each month there will feature a different plant.  There will also be some extra ‘Offshoot’ episodes connected to the stories because when you tell a plant story there is often more than one branch.

Presenter/Editor/Producer: Sally Flatman was a BBC Radio producer for 34 years.  This podcast combines her twin passions for plants and audio: “Plants tell stories.  They tell us stories about the people who grew them, the places we find them and the reasons we love them.  Our Plant Stories is a podcast where those stories are shared.  I hope people will be encouraged to grow plants because of the podcast.”
